I had the pleasure of knowing John over several decades, initially as a work colleague and later as a friend. In work, John was respected by all. He was methodical, logical and a safe pair of hands for managing the most complex of projects. In retirement, I have lasting memories of John, Colin and myself as we spent many a happy hour regularly putting the world to right. John was a genuine and lovely man.
